Chair of Philosophy

In the wake of their reciprocity from the very beginning of Christianity, the philosophy is - as rational questioning of the original cause and the final purpose of all things - for the Christian religion is a permanent challenge and inspiration. The first (major) Christian thinkers, ˝patrističari˝ (K. Alexandria, Origen and Augustine) have already inticated those things, noting that philosophy and Christianity (the Christian religion) are in the similar relation as the Old and New Testaments, and that God, in his eternal thoughts, wanted philosophy. St.Augustin with his writings in this period becomes a paradigm of the relationship between Christianity (theology) and philosophy. His expression of "know to believe, believe that you may know" (credo ut intelligas; intellige weight credas, Speech 43, 9: PL 38, 258) indicates precisely the essence of the Christian religion which is essentially a thinking, a faith that calls for reflection. These authors, who believe that philosophy and theology are, in essence, inseparably linked, as their inspiration, with regard to the philosophy, use mostly Plato and Platonic philosophy.

Other classics and is a Christian philosophical thought contributed to the development of philosophy as a separate science, both in its basic structure or.thematic areas such as logic, metaphysics, ethics, etc ..., as well as in its relationship with theology or.Christianity in general. Is unavoidable in this personality and work of St.Thomas Aquinas, who in the philosophical and theological study has a privileged location. In contrast to the above-mentioned, Aristotle's philosophy forms the basis of Thomas' philosophy and we can say and theological creation. So, when it comes specifically on the philosophy and its study of the Catholic theological faculties, it is no exaggeration to point out that the contribution of St.Thomas Aquinas in the study and deepening philosophy remains immeasurable and lasting inspiration in dealing with many contemporary philosophical problems and issues.Unsurprisingly, the fascination of many Christian philosopher, was that the same Christians themselves determine whether they are of the Christian faith away.Just when it mentioned the name of Jürgen Habermas who did not hide his fascination with the Christian thinker (J. Habermas, Times of Übergang).

Certainly, the study of philosophy at the Catholic University like ours, is not restricted to the Aristotelian-Thomistic (especially Platonic-Augustinian) philosophy, although they represent a fundamental framework of what we call Christian philosophy.Study of philosophy in question touches on all the basic fields and the whole philosophy as a science, such as logic and epistemology, ontology, ethics, anthropology, cosmology, philosophy of God - theodicy, and the history of philosophy with all four of her periods (Antiquity, the Middle Ages,Humanism and the Renaissance and Contemporary Philosophy).Hereby is also indicated as a fundamental aspect of teaching philosophy at our university while considering some (of these) areas have significantly propedeutic character. The aim, namely to theology students receive a basic insight into a whole philosophical subjects and questions which in turn is assumed as an essential condition in the understanding and adoption of further theological studies. In addition to these subjects / courses, the department every semester and offer various elective courses and seminars mentioned philosophical areas deepen and thus enrich the qualitative study.

Confirmation all been said in the document "Basic provisions of priestly education '(Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis) that the teaching of philosophy at the Catholic theological faculties discussed in chapter XI., No.70-75.That document: "Studies of philosophy and related sciences (...) seeks to improve the human formation of cadets at sharpening their intellectual critical thinking, and providing them with a deeper knowledge of ancient and modern wisdom that the human family through the centuries enriched" RF no.70th

The latter document mentioned by the philosophy and the sciences. There should therefore bear in mind that the Department of Philosophy of our universities teach and other related disciplines such as psychology and Latin language, which in their own way essentially complete to study philosophy in the first two years, and the study of theology in general.Through the subject of psychology aims primarily to present her as a modern scientific discipline that studies the human person in its basic psychological characteristics, and by referring to a holistic approach to man (sense-sense-mind) the same is trying to connect with the fundamental Christian (theological) settings onthe human person. In the case of Latin special attention is paid to philosophical and theological Latin terminology which in later theological study or.disciplines (dogmatic, moral, right) is taken as a condition sine qua non of the study at all.

Finally, the study of philosophy at our university is not limited to the formal aspect of lectures within the individual courses and seminars, but also complements other activities of professors and students, with the show as the most important organization of and attendance at scientific symposia (theological and philosophical) that our othereducation institutions, developing at the same time with the student's sense of responsibility about the need to expand their knowledge and habits with regard to the future continuing education that will have to be implemented.
