Chair of Fundamental Theology

Always be ready to answer to everyone who asks you a reason of the hope that is in you, but with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3.15 to 16)“

Fundamental theology is a theological discipline that deals with the fundamental issues of the Christian faith. In this perspective, it examines the question of God's revelation and its credibility, the issue act of faith as consent and personal response to God who reveals, the role of the Church as the community in which it is transmitted Publication, and the possibility of theological knowledge. Fundamental theology is facing and to others, and to every one who asks for an explanation of the Christian faith and hope.In this respect, it has an important interdisciplinary aspect, if seeks to enter into dialogue with the philosophy, culture, religion, science, and other thought movements. Interdisciplinarity perspective and approach has an important dimension of this theological discipline. The challenge of contemporary fundamental theology in particular is the issue of the relationship of faith and culture, faith and reason, and the issue of religious pluralism, agnosticism and indifferentism, and the possibility of faith in a secular contemplative and cultural space.Fundamental theology is, therefore, placed in the foundations and the limits of theological discourse in the foundations, because it is the primary object of study of Revelation, the starting point of any theological reflection, and at the borders, because it is called to give a reason for the credibility of Revelation, and as such puts in relationship with the other and different.

From the content of fundamental theology derives its methods, which in principle can be shown in the theological-dogmatic and apologetic-dialog form. The theological-dogmatic method has its place in the study of the foundations of the Christian faith: the basis of Holy Scripture and the Tradition of the Church is trying to understand God's revelation, which in the history of salvation is revealed as the mystery of the event.Publication culminates in the crucified and risen Jesus Christ, and becomes available and is transferred to the Church of Christ.Apologetic-dialogue method, however, is trying to justify and explain (apologia) Christian faith before the application of reason, aims to point out (de-monstratio) the veracity and credibility of God's revelation, the more difficult to engage in dialogue, and that treasure is respect for others. In this respect, fundamental theology, as opposed to defensive and polemical monologue, wants through open discussion (dia-logos) provide an answer to the question of the Christian faith, that is credible and rational point out the coincidence of faith with man's expectations and demands of his mind, and to show that Jesus Christ as the only mediator between God and men is an important and fundamental to every religious relationship with God (Peter Henrici). With a theological perspective that comes from realities of God's revelation, fundamental theology, therefore, essentially marks the anthropological perspective that starts from man or from fundamental issues, expectations and opportunities.

All theology in the end, especially fundamental, an important dimension of the hermeneutical task: a unique historical revelation of God to recite and update, translate and interpret (hermeneuein), and seem understandable to every man and every new generation throughout the ages.
